I got your favorite junkie food
Never understood why it was your favorite.
Especially at sunset.
Even before I could, death took you away.
I avoided it.
Like it never existed.
Until someone brought it in.
And a smirk hit me.
How much you loved it.
How much you’d hate me if I forgot.
Maybe it was your comfort food.
Maybe it told you to pause.
Maybe I’m wrong.
I’ll never know.
Grief never leaves.
It sits beside you.
Takes you back.
Leaves you blank.

Rediscovery of Self

Once I drifted off the winding track,
Lost in a fog of silent doubt, I tasted damp air strangling my throat,
My personality buried deep by bewildered ache,
Uncertain where my footsteps led or left.
But in the calm following the great storm,
I heard a whispered truth within my chest:
Once hidden behind the noise, I had told myself, “You are better than this.”
“Rise, traveller, and claim the spark you held.
The map you seek begins inside your soul.”
With each anxious step through tangled doubt and fear,
I found a glimmer in the fossilised stones, broken up to reveal,
A tiny sprout emerging between the cracks of broken ground:
Renewal waits for those who dare to roam.
I gritted my teeth and felt a surge of warmth spreading through my chest, like embers rekindling as leaves of old fell,
Rebuilt my heart with hope rising to the challenge ahead,
The scars became the seams that restitched me up,
A collage of lessons learned in loss.
Now, when I pause beneath the open sky,
I feel my purpose steady at my side:
A life reclaimed, a spirit born anew, —
May this reminder light the darkest road, a lantern glowing softly in the distance, unwavering in its guidance.
