Book of the Month – Spotlight on a Remarkable Story

Every month, we shine a light on one remarkable book from our growing catalogue, giving readers the chance to explore it in depth.

The Offer

J K Mullins

Genre: Family Conflict Format: Paperback & Digital Published: 2026

Every family has a breaking point. Every man has his moment.

When Duncan’s declining health forces him to step back from the business, the fragile balance within the family begins to unravel. Justin, driven by ego and ambition, pushes aggressively for control, convinced he is the only rightful successor. But his ambition blinds him to the quiet presence he has dismissed for years.

Book cover: title 'THE OFFER' with author 'J K Mullins' over a dark blue cityscape and streetlight, silhouette of a person in foreground.

Richard has endured the turmoil in silence, absorbing the chaos and conflict that others created. What no one realises is that he carries a secret powerful enough to shift the entire future of the company: a forgotten early investment that has grown into a life‑changing fortune. As tensions rise and loyalties fracture, Richard steps forward with an offer no one expects, and a revelation that brings a bully crashing down.

Set against a backdrop of family conflict, corporate pressure, and long‑suppressed truths, The Offer is a gripping story of hidden strength, quiet justice, and the moment a man finally claims his place.

Why It’s This Month’s Featured Book

When the idea for a featured book page came to me, I thought I would use one of my own titles as a test because I am familiar with it. Therefore, I can explore the page format without worrying too much about the content.

The Offer was also my first adult fiction title and is based on a real-life experience.

About The Author

J K Mullins is a software engineer by trade, having studied Computer Science at Durham University. He has worked in the steel industry and financial services, and currently works with a software-as-a-service provider building a new HR system.

After discovering self-publishing in 2025, he launched The Book Hook Online website to promote his work and that of other indie authors. This is done mostly as a hobby, but Jason has been amazed at how the site has grown. It has attracted authors from all over the world, with representation from every continent.

Because indie authors face the challenge of breaking into the market, many paid promotion services exist, some of which are less reputable than they claim. This is why Jason has established The Book Hook Online as a free-to-list platform for authors.
