Just A Setting Sun

They call it just a setting sun,
A day that’s simply done,
But poets see a quiet place
Where hearts and souls can run.

Where every paused and gentle sight
Brings hidden dreams to light,
And deep within, a child awakes
In colors warm and bright.

Some laugh, some dream, some softly stay,
Some hope it’s all okay,
And in that painted sky above,
We slowly drift away.

I got your favorite junkie food

Never understood why it was your favorite.
Especially at sunset.
Even before I could, death took you away.

I avoided it.
Like it never existed.

Until someone brought it in.
And a smirk hit me.
How much you loved it.
How much you’d hate me if I forgot.

Maybe it was your comfort food.
Maybe it told you to pause.
Maybe I’m wrong.
I’ll never know.

Grief never leaves.
It sits beside you.
Takes you back.
Leaves you blank.

Rediscovery of Self

The poem, Rediscovery of Self, by J K Mullins in the Free Poetry page.
Rediscovery of Self, by J K Mullins.

Once I drifted off the winding track,
Lost in a fog of silent doubt, I tasted damp air strangling my throat,
My personality buried deep by bewildered ache,
Uncertain where my footsteps led or left.

But in the calm following the great storm,
I heard a whispered truth within my chest:
Once hidden behind the noise, I had told myself, “You are better than this.”
“Rise, traveller, and claim the spark you held.
The map you seek begins inside your soul.”

With each anxious step through tangled doubt and fear,
I found a glimmer in the fossilised stones, broken up to reveal,
A tiny sprout emerging between the cracks of broken ground:
Renewal waits for those who dare to roam.

I gritted my teeth and felt a surge of warmth spreading through my chest, like embers rekindling as leaves of old fell,
Rebuilt my heart with hope rising to the challenge ahead,
The scars became the seams that restitched me up,
A collage of lessons learned in loss.

Now, when I pause beneath the open sky,
I feel my purpose steady at my side:
A life reclaimed, a spirit born anew, —
May this reminder light the darkest road, a lantern glowing softly in the distance, unwavering in its guidance.

The Last Eye Contact

The grey night, little light,
vast shadows,
down brows,
sad stars, big open yards,
memories unbound,
heart is heavy as it sounds

The eye contact which was once mine,
now only tears make it shine
It belongs to someone,
and now I am his no one…

The memories are buried in my brain,
I remember that rain
when the eyes last time met,
and it’s just a memory yet

No talks, no belonging,
not even drops of friendship,
just longing and just longing,
feeling understood by that one only,
in this crowd I’m still lonely…
still lonely…

Victoria Reiby

This woman is a river, she flows;
Drawing in crowds, like ripples, she glows.
Her personality kindled from unbroken seams,
Wistful, she dreams.

Whispers of joy and hope she gives,
In the enchanted world in which she lives.
To those lucky enough to know her,
Give her nothing but the truth, show her.

A meandering mind,
Ahead of her time,
She drifts upon the sea of life,
Her wit was sharp as a knife.

Undaunted by her reflection,
Wise through years of introspection.
This River Woman is bold, her Universe a song.
The cold drink of water for which your parched mind longs.

Forging her path in new lands,
She holds her heart in her hands,
Flowing and lapping as she moves at will,
Only briefly hesitating, never still.

River Woman is fierce, the world she devours
Her tributaries are a testimony to her far-reaching powers,
River Woman is also gentle and kind,
An empathetic heart, a tender mind.

Often challenged but never broken,
True feelings often remain unspoken.
Preferring silence and isolation in her hour of need.
An independent woman; take heed.

Once again River Woman navigates alone,
Enlightened, she has grown.
Foreign shores await,
She whispers, ” No need to hurry, let destiny choose my fate.”
